Protein expression and purification
CNR-Institute of Crystallography (IC) URT Caserta
Recombinant protein production is a fundamental enabling technology in molecular biology, biotechnology, and life sciences research. Heterologous expression in Escherichia coli remains the system of choice for the rapid, cost-effective, and scalable production of recombinant proteins, supporting applications ranging from basic research to biotechnology, drug discovery, structural biology, and industrial processes. The ITACA.SB Protein Production Facility – c/o CNR-IC URT Caserta – is a state-of-the-art facility providing advanced instrumentation, specialized technical support, and scientific expertise for the development and optimization of recombinant protein production workflows. The facility assists users throughout the entire process, from construct evaluation and expression screening to large-scale protein production, purification, and quality assessment. The services include small- and large-scale recombinant protein expression in bacterial host systems, development and optimization of purification protocols, and biochemical characterization of purified proteins.
In addition, the facility offers structural characterization by cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-EM), including support for sample preparation, data collection, image processing, three-dimensional reconstruction, and structural analysis (see here).
